We’re Hiring!! In-House Translator & Project Manager

šŸŽÆ Role Overview

We’re seeking a bilingual dynamo to join our team as an In-House Translator & Project Manager. This is a brand-new, additional role on our team that combines the art of translation with the science of project management. You’ll help to guarantee smooth operations during peak times and holidays while being the glue that holds our projects together. Basically, you’ll be delivering top-notch translations while keeping project-related tasks on track.

As this is a new role, we estimate the split between project management and translation work is approximately 50/50. Some weeks, it will be 100% project management work, so the split will vary according to work requirements.

šŸ—ļø Key Responsibilities

Translation & Quality Assurance

  • Translate a diverse range of content, including technical, legal, and general materials, ensuring accuracy and cultural relevance.
  • Proofread and edit translations to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Collaborate with our network of linguists to ensure consistency and excellence across projects.

Project Management

  • Oversee client projects from initiation to delivery, ensuring timely and within-budget completion.
  • Coordinate with freelance translators, editors, and proofreaders to meet project deadlines.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing their queries and providing timely updates.
  • Support senior project managers with administrative tasks, such as invoicing and reporting.

šŸ‘€ What We’re Looking For

Not ticking all of the boxes? Don’t worry. This is an ā€œidealā€ list of things we’re looking for, but none of them are dealbreakers, and we can offer training in areas where needed.

  • Fluency in German to English, or English into French
  • Experience in translation and/or project management
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in CAT tools (e.g., SDL Trados, MemoQ)
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A sense of humour and a love for cake (it’s a thing here)

šŸŽ What We Offer

  • Flexible working: Choose between remote work, office-based, or a hybrid model.
  • Four-day working week: After a 3-month probationary period. We do not require overtime and believe in a good work-life balance.
  • Competitive salary: Starting at Ā£24,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • Bonuses: Monthly, quarterly, and annual performance-based bonuses. What does this mean?
    • 2021/22 – average annual bonuses totalled Ā£10113 per PM
    • 2022/23 – average annual bonuses totalled Ā£7746 per PM
    • 2023/24 – average annual bonuses totalled Ā£14381 per PM
    • 2024/25 – average annual bonuses totalled Ā£15129 per PM
  • Benefits: Childcare vouchers, optional NEST pension, paid holidays, and bank holidays.
  • Professional development: Opportunities for growth and learning within the company.
  • Freelance opportunities: Option to take on additional freelance work outside of standard working hours.

šŸ“ How to Apply

  • Ready to join the Atlas gang?
  • Super important and helpful tip:
    • In your application, show us what makes you unique and why you’d be a great fit for our team.

ā“ FAQĀ

Can I work remotely? Yes, you can, but we require you to be based in the UK for the reasons outlined below, and so you can meet us for training and meet up from time to time.

Can I work in an office? Yes, you can, if you are based near St Albans.

Can I work a hybrid office/home schedule? Yes, you can.

What experience do I need? We are looking for someone who fits in with our team. You could be a new graduate. Perhaps you’re finishing your MA. Perhaps you have some project management experience, or extensive project management experience. We are happy to consider any of these scenarios. You need to have some translation experience and be prepared to complete a test piece.

Can I apply if I live outside the UK? We have reviewed this matter and decided to only accept applications from individuals who are permitted to live and work in the UK.

Why is that? It’s time-consuming and expensive for both parties to apply for a sponsorship license and a visa. To employ someone outside the UK, we require a sponsorship license, which costs Ā£574 and takes approximately 8 weeks to process. Additionally, the potential employee may need to apply for an ATAS certificate, which takes an additional 2 to 3 weeks. There is then a fee to assign a certificate to the chosen applicant (Ā£525) and an ongoing Immigration Skills Charge of Ā£364 for the first year and Ā£182 for each 6 months thereafter. We appreciate your interest in our decision criteria and thank you in advance for your understanding. (Source: https://www.gov.uk/uk-visa-sponsorship-employers)
